Caring About Lives in Maine (CAL ME) Project


The Maine Youth Suicide Prevention Program has once again received Garret Lee Smith Memorial Act funding through a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).  The grant will span three years from 9/30/08 and ending 9/29/11.  It builds on existing collaborations and allows for expansion of suicide prevention efforts to enhance the capacity of schools and service providers to provide a culturally competent, sustainable system of prevention, early identification, intervention and referral for families and youth in selected areas of the state.  Training and resources will be provided to key groups in direct contact with youth and vulnerable populations in a variety of settings, including 11 high schools selected through an RFP process to implement the Maine Lifelines Program. 

 

SAMHSA Youth Suicide Prevention Project

Funding from the Garret Lee Smith Memorial Act through a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) will span three years from 9/30/05 and ending 9/29/08.

This funding will allow the Maine Youth Suicide Prevention Program (MYSPP) to move forward with key priorities included in the State’s youth suicide prevention plan. Funds will expand Maine’s youth suicide prevention program through instituting a comprehensive, community-based approach in three high-risk counties. The funded activities also include working with two colleges, sexual minority youth and outreach to two Native American tribes.

CDC Youth Suicide Prevention Intervention Project

The Maine Youth Suicide Prevention Program (MYSPP) conducted a three-year youth suicide prevention project with 12 Maine high schools. With grant funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Injury Disability Outcomes and Programs, this project provided local schools with funding, training and technical assistance to implement and evaluate an effective school-community based suicide prevention program.
