SAMHSA Youth Suicide Prevention ProjectFunding from the Garret Lee Smith Memorial Act through a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) will span three years from 9/30/05 and ending 9/29/08. This funding will allow the Maine Youth Suicide Prevention Program (MYSPP) to move forward with key priorities included in the State’s youth suicide prevention plan. Funds will expand Maine’s youth suicide prevention program through instituting a comprehensive, community-based approach in three high-risk counties. The funded activities also include working with two colleges, sexual minority youth and outreach to two Native American tribes. CDC Youth Suicide Prevention Intervention ProjectThe Maine Youth Suicide Prevention Program (MYSPP) conducted a three-year youth suicide prevention project with 12 Maine high schools. With grant funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Injury Disability Outcomes and Programs, this project provided local schools with funding, training and technical assistance to implement and evaluate an effective school-community based suicide prevention program.
